Audacious Inquiry has announced that it is now certified as a “B Corporation”, the fifth Maryland business and one of the first consulting firms to receive the designation. B Corporations are a type of corporation that use the “power of business” to solve social and environmental problems and to provide public benefit.
In its application, AI highlighted the work of its consultants in healthcare, education and government to impact society positively through the efficient application of information technology. In its certification report, the independent evaluator paid specific attention to the work that AI is doing to reduce healthcare disparities and to improve care coordination via health information exchange. AI was also recognized for its status as an employee-owned company and for its commitment to the community through volunteerism and charitable contribution.
“B Corporation certification of a business may be regarded in the same way one thinks of Fair Trade certification for a brand of coffee or a LEED certification for a building,” said Christopher Brandt, managing partner. “For our current and future customers, this is another indicator of our sound business practices—becoming a B Corporation underlines that we’re not only committed to doing well by our clients, but also to doing good in the community.”
The vision for B Corporations is to create a new sector of the economy which uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. This sector is be comprised of a new type of corporation—the B Corporation—that meets rigorous and independent standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
B Corporations address two critical problems:
  • Current corporate law makes it difficult for businesses to take employee, community, and environmental interests into consideration when making decisions; and
  • The lack of transparent standards makes it difficult for all of us to tell the difference between a ‘good company’ and just good marketing.
The community of B Corporations has recently been featured in publications such as the New York Times, Fast Company, and U.S. News & World Report. More information may be found at
