Rob Horst, Ai Director of Health Information Systems, placed second in Maryland’s Health Data Innovation Contest on May 21 for his idea to leverage the statewide HIE to help reduce health disparities in Health Enterprise Zones (HEZ). The contest seeks practical ideas for creative use of data to improve the health status of Maryland residents. Applicants are encouraged to leverage Maryland’s health information exchange infrastructure in a way that could potentially lead to significant health gains, while respecting privacy.
Rob’s idea centered on the use of HIE data to better define how HEZ boundaries could be established, to improve the treatment of patients within HEZs, and to measure the effectiveness of HEZs. Rob delivered a great presentation to top health officials at the state and national levels.
