BALTIMORE, December 2, 2015 — Audacious Inquiry (Ai), a health information policy and technology company, today announced that their Encounter Notification Service® (ENS®) has reached a milestone of 10 million hospital encounter notifications distributed, since the system’s commercial launch in 2013. ENS currently sends inpatient and emergency department admission and discharge notifications securely to health information exchange (HIE) organization subscribers across Florida, Utah, Delaware, and Maryland, as well as metro Philadelphia and the District of Columbia.

Audacious Inquiry’s ENS, by the numbers:

  • Over 10 million notifications delivered.
  • 550 healthcare organizations receiving notifications, including such leading hospital and health systems as Johns Hopkins Medicine and MedStar Health, and leading health plans including CareFirst, Molina, and Aetna.
  • 12 million patients subscribed to ENS by providers, payers, and care coordinators as of December 2015.

David Klebonis, Chief Information Officer at Palm Beach Accountable Care Organization, LLC said, “ENS has tremendous potential to increase care coordination with hospitals and physicians. We are now able to coordinate care at admission, reduce hospital length of stay, and reduce readmissions through PCP transitional care management. We are fortunate that Florida is one of the first to offer this technology.”

ENS provides secure and reliable notifications and summary of care documents on a patient or individual’s hospital-based encounter. Because of ENS, patients have the potential to receive improved transitions of care, timely scheduling of follow up appointments after hospital discharge, and preventative care.

Chris Brandt, Managing Partner of Ai, stated, “ENS has grown to the point where it is impacting nearly a million patient lives every month—the scope of the impact on a population health level is significant.” He added, “Readmissions are a major driver of unnecessary hospitalizations and potentially avoidable hospital costs. Our ENS notification system is a catalyst that enables providers and care managers to engage patients and decrease hospital readmissions.”

CRISP, a leading HIE serving Maryland and the District of Columbia, uses ENS to enable care coordination and deliver notifications for a majority of the patients across its service area every month. ENS is a scalable solution that can rapidly drive measurable clinical improvements in quality and outcomes, and can be integral to initiatives around population health, transitions of care, and reduction of readmissions. To learn more, register to attend the upcoming December 9th Ai webinar, titled “ADT Data and Value for Public Health”.
